Supported browsers

For the best experience, make sure you’re using the latest version of Google Chrome on a desktop computer. Your First Patient is not optimized for other browsers and certain ones, such as Safari, don’t support real-time video conferencing.

Camera, microphone, and notification permissions

Your browser will display a permissions popup in the top left corner of the browser window the first time you visit the site or do a consultation as shown below. Please click OK or Allow when prompted to grant permission.

Chrome permissions request@2x

Before you can conduct a consultation, you’ll need to grant permission for Your First Patient to access your camera and microphone so that your partner can see and hear you. Certain browsers, such as Safari, don’t support real-time video conferencing and so you won’t be able to use Your First Patient with them—we recommend you use Google Chrome for the best experience. To get the most out of Your First Patient, you should also grant permission to show desktop notifications so you can be notified of users coming online and consultation requests even when your browser window is not at the front of your screen.

If you’ve previously denied permission

If you’ve denied permission to Your First Patient previously by clicking Block or Don’t Allow, we won’t be able to prompt for permission again and you will have to manually grant permission. To do this in Chrome, click the green text that says Secure to the left of the URL in the address bar at the top of the browser window.

Then set Camera, Microphone, and Notifications all to Allow as shown below. Other browsers allow changing blocked permissions in a similar way.
